This guide was written for Windows XP users.
This guide was written for networks with port 80 and 8080 blocked. If you can unblock these ports, then make sure not to enable TCP/IP networking, for added security.
Run the Apache installer
type localhost as the net domain
type 127.0.0.1 for the server name
type the email address for your email address
select "for all users on port 80" even if you have no particular desire to install it for all users
select typical installation
unzip the php zip to c:\php
open "C:\php\php.ini-recommended" to "php.ini" and open it in notepad
goto line 635 and uncomment it (remove the semicolon)
goto line 519 and change it to say extension_dir = "c:\php\ext"
find "register_globals" and turn it on
save and exit php.ini
open "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\httpd.conf" in notepad
add the following lines to the bottom of the file:
LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2.dll"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
save and exit httpd.conf
select a typical installation
skip the mysql.com account creation unless you want to tie your account with this installation (if you even have one)
make sure "configure mysql server" is checked when you hit Finish
select "detailed configuration" and "developer machine" and "multifunctional database"
leave the tablespace directory "Installation Path"
leave "decision support (DSS)/OLAP" selected
check "Enable TCP/IP Networking" and leave the Strict Server option checked
use the Standard Character Set
leave all the settings on the next page as they are, we'll set up a shell batch later
uncheck "configure security settings" and hit Execute
add the following lines into notepad:
cd c:\program files\mysql\mysql server 5.0\bin
echo Welcome to MySQL
echo User: root
echo Password: 4862159+
mysql -u root --password=4862159+ --prompt=">"
save it as "mysql.bat" in c:\windows\system32
open the command prompt
type "cd c:\program files\mysql server 5.0\bin" -without quotes- and hit enter
type "mysql -u root" -without quotes- and hit enter
type "SET PASSWORD FOR 'root'@'localhost' = PASSWORD('4862159+');" -without quotes- and hit enter
type "exit" -without quotes- and hit enter
*you can now access the mysql shell from the command prompt by typing "mysql" without quotes and hitting enter
right click My Computer and click properties
go over to Advanced then click Environment Variables
edit the Path variable and add c:\php and C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0 to the list
hit ok, etc
right-click the apache icon in the system tray
click Open Apache Monitor
click Restart in the service monitor then hit OK
restart your computer
