Hmm off the top of my head, I could name Second Life's scripting language, Winamp's MAKI, Macs' Applescript, Maya's MEL, matlab, etc. Sure you could use C, but why spend thousands of hours reinventing the wheel? mush1k.gif

C/C++ are good for high performance system and bottlenecks, but for non speed-critical things they are often not practical enough.

Well of course, but I'm still rather irked by the countless Java apps out there, which eat so much memory. *glares at Eclipse, FrostWire*

Ah yeah, me too. If I have a choice between a program and the same program running 2 times faster, I'll take the second option any day mush1k.gif

I'm pretty much interested in ActionScript at the moment. It's cool letting graphics and coding work together =)

I have some basic Java. They cancelled my course this semester since like, ten kids enrolled. We were almost at applets too T-T.

I have some VB, but that's not web dev I think.

I personally dislike Java applets. For interactive web content, it's either Flash or JavaScript. I'm quite a purist. ;p

Has anyone looked at Silverlight yet? I hear it has support for hardware accelerated graphics, which would solve the low frame rate problems in flash and javascript.

But it wouldn't support anything else than Windows, because Microsoft made it.

Javascript plox. Speed is all in the browser.

Hmm... interesting... After reading up Wikipedia, it appears that Microsoft will be making Linux and Mac versions too.

Hmm, to a certain extent yes, but when you're working with frame rates, javascript is an order of magnitude too slow regardless of the browser ._.

Depends on the purpose. Naturally, we're not going to make JS games and movies. I would really rather use JS over Flash wherever possible and realistic. Animated menus? Bring on the JS. mush1k.gif

*is guilty of falling for the js eye candy on my ever-so-ancient blog* >_<

Lately, I've been pretty anti-eye-candy because animated things are horrible when it comes to usability and accessibility, and it just adds more complexity to things that should be simple.
