1. Starting off.

When you first start off on Maple Island, make sure you have the lowest amount of SP possible in INT/LUK. This means 4 int and 4 luk, if you are too impatient you can still live with 5/5. By level 10 you should have 10 or 15 STR and the rest in DEX. 10 if you're using a xbow from level 12+, 15 DEX if you're using bows from level 10-30 Now that you are level 10, talk to the NPC at Southperry (far right of town) and he will take you to Victoria Island for a small fee of 150 mesos. Here, you will encounter many new monsters, some that will kill you in one hit. However, if you have some funding from another account you may want to just take the taxi in Lith Harbor to Henesys. The taxi looks like this NPC standing in a shack type thing (it's immediately to the right of the boat you arrived on). However before you head off, I recommend finding Olaf and doing his quest. This will give you a good amount of exp helping you level faster.

When you get to Henesys, head into the portal that says "Mushroom Town", located to the left of the "Market" portal. Walk to the right and you will soon see a huge tree with a portal, enter it and talk to Athena Pierce .

Congratulations you are now an archer! mush1q.gif

Now head to the weapon and armor store (located in the "Market" portal). Buy yourself a War Bow and whatever armor you like if you can afford it. Head to the potion store and buy yourself arrows and whatever pots you would like and then you are ready to begin your path as an archer!
*Note: It is not necessary to use a crossbow before level 30, if you do not wish to use a crossbow in your early stages, keep your STR 5 more than your level.

The Crossbowman

Part 1 of the Crossbowman.

1. The Crossbowman, also known as the xbowman, focuses on its attack and accuracy. They have more dex than the Hunter and can deal a significantly stronger attack. Crossbowmen are one of the least common classes in the game, so be proud of becoming one.

2. Pros/Cons.

Pros:
>>>>Very powerful due to the extra boost of dex and the xbow attack.
>>>>You get to buy some of the cheapest weapons, equips and scrolls in MapleStory.
>>>>When you reach third job, you have the ability to train on high level monsters because of your attack and accuracy.
>>>>You can get into more ludi pqs due to your range and attack.

Cons:
>>>>Slow attack speed
>>>>Slow leveling early on (10-38)
>>>>During low levels you may become overrun with mobs

----------------------
Level 20: MP -20; Attack for 600 seconds without using up an arrow

*** This is an extremely handy skill because once you get it, you will never have to fill up your "use" inventory with arrows again.

Iron Arrow Mastery Level: 30
Type: Active

Pros/Cons of Final Attack

You train faster.
You use less mesos in the long run. But the amount would be so slight that this is hardly a con.
Well, you just get an extra shot, what can I say?

Can become annoying when fighting bosses or when skill is not maxed.

5. Meso making tips:

Part (a)

As a Crossbowman, you really don't need too many mesos. However, one day you might decide that you would like a nicely scrolled dex robe and attack gloves. If you are extremely poor you might want to head to kerning city. Here the cute little nublets will sell you scrolls for a cheap price. If you feel bad about it, then just give them a generous offer but one that you can still make money off of.

You can then head to the FM (free market) and sells scrolls to the "BUYING [email protected]@@" guys, or you can spend your time on basil (basilmarket.com). Here you can upload auctions for whatever items you have and have people bid on and buy your auctioned items. If you have an FM store than you can become one of those "Buying [email protected]@@@@@" people. To sum it up, buy and sell for more. You'll be amazed at how many mesos you can make in a couple of days doing this.

Don't npc your equips if they're avg or abv avg, sell them on basil or in your FM store.

6. Training spots:

Level 30-38

I recommend training at boars ,
zombie mushrooms ,
or jr/sakura cellions
if you have a scrolled bow and/or attack wgs.

38-42 (new crossbow stages)
I recommend training on fire boars,
and Ludi PQ

42-50
Ludi PQ, monsters in florina ,
zombie lupins Lolz>>> .
There's also Kiyos/Sand Dwarves which came out recently- theres an area thats 100% flat and great for iron arrow. It's recommended by other users as a great place to train.
55-60
I recommend training on Cellions .
They are 160 exp each and can be found in mobs. Wraiths are also a good choice, although only 120 exp they can be easy to manage. Also Gryphons in NLC are great

60-70 Zombies,
FoG ,
or Gryphons located in NLC.
Forest of Golem, FoG, will be easier to manage during third job don't worry ;P

That sums up the Crossbowman.

The goal of this was to hopefully answer some of the questions you guys have, to stop you from asking questions (always ask if you are confused on something though!), and to maybe interest some of you in the crossbowman/Sniper path without having to read hundreds of FAQ pages.

7. STRless???

The STRless crossbowman.

I recommend to people who have limited playing time, or people who will later turn low-str.
Pros- higher damage, only one set of equips, unique, very rare.
Cons- You will eventually start to become out damaged by normal crossbowmen. You're damage will get unbearably weak in later levels.

What is an STRless crossbowman? Well it's pretty self-explanatory- a crossbowman with no STR.

Starting off.

When you first start off on Maple Island, make sure you don't add any points to STR, all points will go into DEX. By level 10 you should have over 50 DEX. Talk to the NPC at Southperry (far right of map) and he will take you to Victoria Island for a small fee. Here you will encounter many new monsters, some that will kill you in one hit. However if you have some funding from another account you may want to just take the taxi in Lith Harbor to Henesys.

Head to the potion store and buy yourself arrows and whatever pots you would like. If you are funded when you reach level 12 you can scroll your crossbow with 100s/70s/60s/30s/or 10% scrolls. This will make up for the weapon attack you will be missing out on. Along with ATT work gloves and DEX shoes if you can afford them.

From here on out you are set for a while. Choose your crossbow build (SP wise), and at level 35 and 43 be sure to get a good Maple Crow and Maple Crossbow

Now at around level 48 you have a few choices, do I want to continue STRless for a while (and try to my STR up with equips), do I want to start adding dex, or do I want to stay STRless permanently. If you do decide to start adding STR (5 each level), you will have the STR required for the level 60 crossbow and a large DEX boost from whatever equips you have. If you want to continue on a little longer, you really need to get an amazing STR cape and STR red wg's. You will most likely end up with around a 15 DEX boost. Then you can start adding STR at level 51.

*** I you don't to stay STRless so long, you can follow the above paragraph but start at 38-41.

With that you are no longer a STRless crossbowman and you follow the normal AP builds. STR=your level, all other AP goes into DEX.

Alternative Builds:

Directions: Choose as many of the following switches as you want, and follow that build.

(a.) Switch up Eruption and Strafe
(b.) Add Puppet/Eagle anywhere you want before level 98
(c.) Do not max eruption; stop it at 15 or whenever you want. If you stop it early, which I guess I do recommend more, continue following and add the next skills.
(d.) You don't NEED 2 second blizzard but believe me, it helps.
(e.) Make your own build. All of the builds I've shown you are for the following training monsters.

70~81 FoG, DT's, Coolies, Gryphons.
81-85 DT's
85+ Gobies/Black Squids
92+ Squid Parties. Note it will be hard to find one, but level 92 is when you can start leaching exp from Risel Squids
After level 100 you can start to experiment and fight stronger monsters like Gig vikings

>>> If you do not wish to train in these places or places like these (Similar monster levels), add whatever skills you like. Although I don't know where you would train.

(f.) Always feel free to add a few minor adjustments, or switch up the skills around level 90.

5. Training spots (already mentioned)

70-81 FoG, zombies, DT's
81-85 Train on DTs, soloing black squid.
85+ Now you can move on to things like gobies (Usually with a training partner), and soloing black squid.
90+ You can take on pretty much anything; soon squid parties will be great exp.

6. User submitted tips/training recommendations. Post them and I will add them here.

Auxilia's Tips:

Fa makes crossbowman more slow and unreliable.. Thats why most (say all) crossbowman go for a non FA build. If you do want this skill, make sure its maxed.

A good way making money is questing.. There are a lot of lvl 40+ quests that give glove attack scrolls and other good scrolls. Do those to make some money.. Also mushmomming at lvl 60+ is a good way to make some quick money.

at lvl 30 sentinels is a good spot to, they are kinda slow and give good Exp. After lvl 45 you can also choose to go copper drakes.. Pqing is a nice option when your 45+ to. When your lvl 55 you can try luster pixies or jr. yeti's at lvl 60-65 you'll be strong enough for the Cellions, but hector is also a good idea.

Nayr Shadows' Tips:

Level 50 you can pretty much go to Jr. Yetis. I was getting good exp there.

Around 53-55 you can trade off with Jetis and Flyeyes (which are great exp but really really boring), and if you have good equips, Zombies at 57. If not, hold off until 59-60.

Decent guide, but

1) Golden Eagle and Silver Eagle are exact same skill. You should note to the reader that this "pro" was made to be humorous because some readers may not catch the punch at Rangers. Unless you were...Serious for some reason...
2) You "might" get random fames would be better here. Getting randomly famed just because you are a Sniper is certainly not a guarantee and really, plays no role in a tactical sense on which guides are typically created. Just my opinion.

Fixed and all classes "might" get random fames. It's just something I notice on my sniper (I get a lot more 'random" fames than most other classes).

Did you know archers from lvl 10-15ish do more damage using a two-handed lvl 10 melee weapon such as the metal axe or the wooden sword?

Just an opinion that I think you should add into the guide

I think that a good place to train from lvl 46-50 is on mu lung beginners training ground. Great exp . 2.5k hp. You do need a scrolled crossbow to train here.
Remember to be yourself...unless you suck.

I would go FAless if you are a crossbowman that has arrow blow for example: me. It screws up everything.

I wish more thought was put into the training aspect =/ I'm going to release a guide soon that focuses more on training.. along with other things.

For the 42-50 range I'd put up Kiyos/Sand Dwarves which came out recently- theres an area thats 100% flat and great for iron arrow

Yea, my guides are outdated and aren't going to be revised so you should make one.

But I never talked much about training because honestly, I don't know anyone who can follow a guide so strictly and still have fun. Probably a main reason people quit.
