I've been looking through the forums, and I noticed that many MapleTippers use standard English grammar. So, I've thought about an event that will include grammar.

Parallelism, Verb Tense, Conjunctions, Subject/verb agreement, pronouns, misplaced modifier, etc. ALL COUNT!

(This is just a event suggestion*)
1. Each contestant must write a short essay using standard English grammar (1 essay per contestant). The essay will be on a topic of my choice. Topics for the essay will be related to MapleStory.

2. The essay must be at LEAST 3 paragraphs (about 3-5 sentences = 1 paragraph).

3. Do not criticize another person's essay, or you will be removed from the event. Criticizm can be deleterious to a person's feelings (HAHA mushdevil1.gif ) and can engender rivalry.

4. The MapleTippers who succeed in writing a grammar perfect essay shall proceed to the "semi-final" round of the grammar challenge. The semi-finalists will have to write an essay on a different topic about MapleStory.

5. We will continue step 4 until only three contestants remain. If there is a tie among three or more challengers, then the essay with the least amount of grammar errors will win.

The Winner will be named MapleTip's King/Queen of Grammar!
The Runner-up will be named MapleTip's Prince/Princess of Grammar!
The 3rd Place essayist will be named Mapletip's Jester/Jesteress of Grammar!

For this event there needs to be 2 judges to proof-read each essay, tell me who will proceed onto the next round, and tell me who lost.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE A JUDGE, PLEASE INFORM ME!(Would be nice to get someone like JadeCurtiss)

If enough people like this idea, then I will start it under Fan Fiction if Administrators permit.

This is going to be so interesting. Though I usually hate writing essays, much less typing one. If "standard English" means I don't have to be professional about it, then I might join. As much as I am for grammar and all that, I consider myself low on the "professional" tier- possibly even stuck on the standard one.

Also, Hobbes, Miya =/= Miyak.

I made this post hastily because I was about to go to sleep. Anyway, all I need are SUPPORTERS and JUDGES.To SpionKop: If there is any doubt, then consult me since I have a "The Princeton Review SAT Master Writing" manual. The manual contains all kinds of grammar rules that I can use.To Void: You do not have to be professional about the contest. The contest is just for fun mush1n.gifI also need permission to use the Fan Fiction section of MT Forums.

If this is still active, I would like to participate (although most people here on the forums probably loathe grammar)

The Princeton Review is not the ultimate standard... most literary geeks like some of my friends ( : / ) know that Oxford is standard.

QUESTION: Will we be marked down for using British English instead of American English? For example; My IGN in Maple Story is 'Civilised', which would be spelled 'Civilized' in American English.

Omgyes please. :]

I aspire to conquer this challenge while annihilating other participants blocking my path to glory. mush1n.gif

That's more of spelling rather than grammar, but still, there are times in which the two differ, I guess.

But surely if a grammar contest was to be judged, spelling would come into it?

Well, if anyone cannot host it, I'd gladly host it for you. I'm in advanced spelling and grammar in my school and I know both American and British English. mush1o.gif
