"Nexon.net is going away, so we're throwing it the biggest goodbye party ever"

That quote was grabbed from a Flash animation you can see on all NexonAM sites. No, it doesn't mean what we all think it means. They're simply changing their image and name from NexonAM to... Blockheads?

Wait, what? Check out Hime's forum post: What is going on at Nexon.net you ask?? The Blockheads (the feisty little green dudes with party hats) have come to share the BlockParty gospel in their…"unique" way. We don't always understand their tactics, but they know how to have fun doing it, so what are you going to do?

So check out the BlockParty infotainment animatory thing. The Blockheads spent a lot of time on it, and we're pretty sure you will see why.
(Source: NexonAM Forums)

Yeah, remember those green guys you saw when you opened up MapleStory? Those would be Blockheads, and they'll be what would be the image of NexonAM; a mascot if you will.

Honestly... I don't like how this is gonna end up. weirdface7ut.gif

~ iamflip ~

EDIT: ...apparently, it gets worse:

What are kids going to do after they leave Club Penguin? Nexon hopes they'll hang out at Block Party. Min Kim, Nexon America's Vice President of Marketing, announced the company's Block Party service, a new brand for its social gaming portal that will be designed to appeal to a slightly older audience.

Kim made the announcement last week in a presentation about social gaming in which he considered future activities for Club Penguin gamers, who he calls "bubble babies." Nexon considers the group the first truly connected generation. Born during the dot.com "bubble," he noted they are already playing online social games.

I don't like how this will end up as well. But you know what, there is no doubt that this will be successful. Most of the players of these games are pre-teens and tweens who want to do some social networking to feel like they are a part of something. That's why they're playing Maple Story, it does that successfully.

Yeah...they're like turning it into a facebook. I really hate when gaming sites try to do this to themselves.

I really want Bloc Party, the next best thing since sliced bread, to sue nexonAM when this happens.

Seriously, I see no point in this >_>

... the news gets worse and worse and worse...

QUOTE
What are kids going to do after they leave Club Penguin? Nexon hopes they'll hang out at Block Party. Min Kim, Nexon America's Vice President of Marketing, announced the company's Block Party service, a new brand for its social gaming portal that will be designed to appeal to a slightly older audience.

Kim made the announcement last week in a presentation about social gaming in which he considered future activities for Club Penguin gamers, who he calls "bubble babies." Nexon considers the group the first truly connected generation. Born during the dot.com "bubble," he noted they are already playing online social games.

"By 2012 they're going to be 11, 12, 13," he said, "and the sweet spot for our demo is around 14, 15, 16, and that's not going to happen until 2015. We think that there's going to be an explosion of social gaming behavior by 2015."

Developing a strategy for retaining its young players in the coming years is of no small importance to the growing Korean online game developer. Nexon recently announced that its popular RPG adventure MapleStory, which enjoyed its fourth anniversary this past summer, had attracted 92 million players worldwide, with six million in North America.

What's more, Nexon has plans to serve a total of up to eight games in North America by 2010. These include Dungeon Fighter (due to launch later this year), Mabinogi: Heroes, Dragon Nest, and BnB -- all set for debut in 2010.

Nexon speculates that once kids leave Club Penguin and other kid-targeted services, they're not necessarily going to switch to another form of online gaming. Rather their changing interests and lifestyles will cause them to gravitate towards other types of web entertainment, with destinations and services such as YouTube and iTunes more likely to benefit from this transition rather than gaming sites.

Nexon plans Block Party's slightly older appeal to keep young gamers connected to its community. The key, says Kim, is looking at the concept of community as not only a relationship of users with each other but also one of users to the company.

"The cool thing about this versus what else is going on in the market is that we're going the opposite way," says Kim. "If you look at Facebook, they've gotten all of their users and are figuring out how to keep their users entertained. We've got the games and want to keep a robust community." Kim did not announce an exact launch date for Block Party. --Wes Nihei

Nexon has been infected with AIDS. Nexon is becoming as carebeary and cutesy as Maplestory itself. They are going to be attracting newfags more than ever now and I don't see anything good coming to it in the future.

They kicked the mature audience in the nuts and opened the door for club penguin-and-gaiafags.

Maybe they figured that little kids are easier to convince to buy NX?

[rant]

But seriously, Blockheads? The green things kinda just irked me at first, do they seriously have to be the mascots and wind up sticking their stupid faces everywhere? Also who picked the name? "Blockhead" doesn't exactly sound very dignified.

Another thing, why are they like trying to draw in kids into their gaming community so early? D= That's awful, trying to get kids addicting to online gaming as early as possible.

[/rant]

Nexon you really know how to disappoint while still making big bucks.

Anyone else notice the large ammount of ads of new online games targeted towards kids?Along with toys that have codes for online websites?
