A Warning About Illegal (Private) Servers
As we've recently seen more problems with illegally operated, private servers, we wanted to provide information to our players regarding the dangers of these operations... I don't know why they brought this issue up again. I don't know. I just don't. What baffles me is how there are actually more problems now with private servers. I always thought the private server scene died ages ago. I can see the servers still going on, but being more problematic than the "outbreak" when they were first released is a bit of a puzzling concept. But then again, what do I know. Nexon wouldn't want competition. In their Maple Story. In America. --------------------  |

What I find hilarious is that they go 'these are just scams to get your account/money' when most of the top servers are free, and you can always, I dunno, USE A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT NAME AND PASS! (oh wait that'd be called intelligence, Nexon obviously thinks nobody has any)

The only reason I can think of why NexonAM would post this notice was due to the fact that they've managed to crack whatever was prohibiting people to produce localhost clients for versions v.63 and up. If you search via Google for a bit, you'd find a couple of servers have updated to v.75.
The scene probably has died down long ago due to outdated servers and people getting bored and tired of both the official and private servers, but there's some still alive and snubbing it at NexonAM's faces with updated servers. ...of course, NexonAM isn't exactly helping with their own case with providing a patch that has almost nothing but CS stuff. Or maybe we've been spoiled with patch after patch of content as of late... I dunno. -------------------- |

Can I sue them for libel? I've run a private server before without engaging in illegal activity and especially not identity theft and compromise of personal information, and labeling me as an identity thief is clearly libel.

I think that the most probable reason why Nexon does not like private servers is because it is "theft" of their art, programming, ideas, etc. ^^;
